Those of you who follow Tom Rafterys blog will have noticed an internet storm that has erupted after the O'Reilly Group sent a lawyer's letter to IT@Cork over their June conference. The O'Reilly group took exception to the title of the conference "Web 2.0 half day Conference".
To do my bit to support Tom and IT@Cork I have purchased the domain name
web2pointzeroconference.com (thanks to my brother Colin for pointing out that it is available) and I have put it up for auction on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9733325253
I will donate 100% of the proceeds of the auction to IT@Cork in person when I turn up on the 8th June. It remains to be seen whether that donation will be a handful of change or a bank draft :-)
UPDATE: For those of you with better things to be doing the auction currently stands at €305 with newsletter.ie in the lead. Over the course of today (Monday) they have battled with irishlinuxhosting (Michele Neylon) and stephenmcc for pole position. Looks like my loose change is safe.
The original "discussion" is featured in the New York Times, is back on the front page of Techmeme and Tom R has been stripped (thanks to James in EirePreneur for spotting that)
UPDATE2: I would like to point out that this auction is in no way supported by IT@Cork. This is clear from the following posted by Tom on his blog:
"Keith - now that’s just naughty" Post linked here
and more recently
"as Fr. Ted would say, “Down with that sort of thing!" Post linked here
I know where I stand.

A 1.95 postage charge on a domain? Ah keith.... :) Fair play to the idea tho!

Yep Ken - could not get rid of that postage charge - I still find the ebay UI very confusing :-(
But let me announce the exclusive here - there is no postage charge for this item!

Is there a reserve on that auction?

Hi Michele
You are well past it. Let the market decide now :-)

Nice to see that it's getting some good bids.........

Yes it is Michele - will be interesting now to see if it develops legs in the closing minutes. Personally I suspect not - the storm has passed.
