PodcampIreland notes

Intro by Krisna - giving background to the Camp and the various sectors represented.

For the first time I am using a "backchannel" - the Jaiku stream of texts which are thoughts on the move from various participants here.

Unconference talk by Brian Greene and Dean Whitbread
The Rule of Two Feet comes from the concept of open learning - moving away from lecturer/student idea. The Rule - if you are not interested at any time feel free to exit and start your own session. Using your Two Feet :-)

[Opphs - just embarrassed myself. Claimed to be on an Eircom open network but was still on the O2 broadband support. And proclaimed it to the entire audience.]

Creativity and Social Media. BrianG - Social media is created by everyone and creates links through the sharing of said content and media. He says that the podcast is a variant on radio " Here I am and here is what I will do today". There are more creative ways of using the medium. He questioned the participants - share your creativity use of podcast.

Michael Ryan - he has done podcasts on the fly - sitting comfortably and without planning.

English podcaster (did not catch his name - possibly Michael Dee?) - he uses his podcasts to record comments and feedback from attendees at music events. He combined some open source music sources, credited them and though that introduced a number of musicians from around the world who then started collaborating with each other.

Another speaker does 10 minute podcasts (180 of them) and uses podsafe music though them.

Dean - what would people usually be doing on Saturday morning?

Dean - how many people are professional podcasters. About half the audience - they make money out of the medium.

Brian - spoke about this use of the new media network by non-corporates who have protected spectrum/spaces whereas they do not get this stuff. Yet. And if "we" do not develop our use of the new media to create new uses and new ways and not replicate the normal/traditional way of doing things.

Dean to Brian - why did you start? Brian - he saw an opportunity to use unregulated spectrum. He seeks to connect to peers.

Dean - who are the participants connecting to?

Dean to Conn - what is the creative thing you have ever done? Conn - no specific instant. However he spoke about the evolution of his use of the medium (started with Irish) and his interaction and communication with others has been the creative spark for him. Dean and Conn are now flirting with each other in Irish!

Missed the last of that - over to coffee and networking now :-)
